Jesenia @NeuroSpicyNetworking joins the Calling Up Justice Quarantine Residency again in July 2024

NAID Art Center – Contemporary Art Center for Disabled Community offers resources, education, and studio space to disabled artists in the area. I’m looking forward to learning more about their accessibility offerings and excited who they will be partnering with for more covid safety measures to take place in the space.

Richmond Arts Center – Beautiful community arts center that offers a large array of arts and skills classes and workshops as well as uplifting and employing local BIPOC artists.

Farmer Market – Local famers market happens every Friday morning and accepts EBT (aka food stamps). I love how intentional and accessible this community is and work to be for each other!

Blake Garden – As I was looking for a place to hike, I struggled to find a place that was open to the public. Not only was everything gated or covered in no trespassing signs, even the views of the beautiful bay has been colonized by owners covering their fences with black cloth to keep people from seeing the bay for free. In my search for a relaxing day in nature I stumbled on Blake Garden. I was happy to see it was open and free, but the gate clearly posted a land acknowledgement to the Lasjan Nation. The sad reality of colonization is evident in the stolen land that was privately owned and then donated to colonial organizations rather than repatriated to the original stewards.

I was trying to go on a hike and I couldn’t because all the parks were closed due to fire risk and the irresponsibility of the public for not throwing off fireworks in the woods so I couldn’t go on a hike this morning and I was driving around looking for a place to be in nature that was not a children’s plastic playground, and I stumbled upon this privately owned land that was donated to Berkeley, but it should be returned back to the Lisjan Nation!

Fuck the 4th Drag show – local drag artists honoring our ancestors and celebrating indigenous culture and heritage as a protest to the colonization of Turtle Island at Dolores Park! QTBIPOC community is strong here and was healing to enjoy time and space on this beautiful summer day.

Joining the Calling Up Justice Quarantine Residency is a great way to experience the Bay Area in a covid conscious way. It offered a unique opportunity to connect, create, and engage with other social justice producers.

This residency was a wonderful opportunity to learn from Claudia Alick. They graciously shared their expertise knowledge and experience with me. Residencies like these are valuable for collaboration in both digitally and in shared spaces.
