Calling Up Justice presented this digital cold reading of. “Istwa A Two Long Table Read,” the afrofuturist devised dance music theater piece from SkyRiver Speaks and directed by Claudia Alick. We were joined by international theater makers, Haitian cultural experts, and disabled community in our our futuristic digital space full of links to Haitian cultural information. Claudia Alick and SkyRiver and Neurovaper made design choices and built the Milokan Theater to reflect the island and support this play reading. Senny is a contemporary Haitian American woman in the midst of crisis, who discovers new technology that allows her to communicate with and get advice from her ancestors- Sheroes of the Haitian Revolution (1791-1804). Based on the work of historian Bayyinah Bello and in the Afro Futurist genre- SkyRiver Speaks will use music, movement, poetry, and ritual – to create a digital and in-person space for gathering, connecting, and collective healing.
