Artificial Intelligence Experiments

Welcome to Calling Up Justice Artificial Intelligence Experiments! We started tinkering with AI tools like ChatGPT, DALL·E, and MidJourney as soon as they hit the scene. We hopped onto the DAIR Mastodon server and dug into papers like “Stochastic Parrots” to learn from experts on AI Ethics. Once we spotted the unfairness baked into this tech, we knew it would soon be everywhere. So we crafted a video game that takes a stand against platforms taking from visual artists. Yep, we’re part of the Archive of Our Own fanfic crowd, and we’re sure that our data was probably scrubbed. To a certain extent we think of these platform as partially ours since they wouldn’t exists without the data they got from us. Check out our fanfic collections and visual art we’ve generated. We’re experimenting with AI to fight bias and make things more accessible. Sure, we’re a bit skeptical, but we’re all about understanding these tools and having some real influence. Our focus? Using them to push for disability and racial justice in our AI experiments and projects. Our Accessible Innovation project is producing tangible results.

AI Slidedeck Experiments

During our last Accessible Innovation session we experimented with a artificial intelligence technology that creates a slidedeck presentation based on your text. We didn’t love the design choices, and it added inaccurate information. We think fine tuning the data helps but the white bias in the design can only be fixed by the programmers at google. However it gave us something easy to edit and served as a first step tool for accessibility. We edited the most incorrect text but left the images so you can see how the AI is biased in ways that subvert anti-racism.

AI Cyrano

AI Experiments: We produced this essay while discussing the complexities of allowing a computer to speak for you. We prompted it to create a story where Cyrano De Bergerac is an artificial intelligence and gave it specific plot points to produce. Produced with Claudia Alick

The Every 28 Hours Plays is a collection of micro-plays that address the topic of police violence and racism. As part of Calling Up Justice’s experiments with artificial intelligence and social justice we experimented with producing a script that was anti-racist.  We also wanted to create something hopeful and we found this machine generated fantasy healing.

Unlocking the Potential of Your Voice: Embracing Vulnerability in Content Creation

Calling Up Justice is a company that is conducting an exciting project aimed at experimenting with accessibility and machine learning technology to increase empowerment for disabled creators. The project involved selecting a video or other writing source featuring disabled creators sharing their clever ideas for 1-3 minutes. Free platforms were then used to transcribe the video, which was subsequently fed into Chat GPT to produce an essay that authentically reflected the creators’ voices and ideas. With the help of Claudia Alick’s fine tuning data and prompts, the resulting essays were representative of the disabled creators’ perspectives. This project exemplifies how artificial intelligence technology can be leveraged to empower marginalized communities and create a more inclusive society, with minimal effort on the part of the creators. The following article was built off a tiktok video published by Jesenia.

AI and the Reproduction of Supremacy Culture Ideologues

The emergence and advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has brought about significant changes in various fields, including entertainment, medicine, education, and more. Revolutionizing Creative Expression: How Calling Up Justice pushes Social Justice in AI

The Calling Up Justice practice explores technological innovation that impacts cultural producing. We asked Chat GPT to describe the experiment we are doing with artificial intelligence platforms. Our interest is in accessibility, bias, and how it will impact creative production in the future. We’ve been creating everything from plays and stories to animations and videogames using the tools and discussing them publicly. The text below is the result of fine tuning data that described a few of our sessions.
