Trek Table is a weekly livestream ritual holding Trek Space for Black, Indigenous, Brown, Women of Color (Queer or otherwise) and their Allies. We gather with Trek heads, newbies, generational Star Trek families, and the sci-fi curious to explore, celebrate, and dive deep into Star Trek Discovery. Trek Table is a little like Sports Center meets a Quiz show, with lots of Improv and a sashay of Ru Paul’s Drag Race while sitting around the table having tea or a bowl of salad to hear women of color’s thoughts, opinions and insights on Star Trek Discovery. It’s a ritual. So we hold space. We breathe together. We laugh and sometimes, we have Star Trek fights – with our phasers set on stun.
Trek Table is produced by Calling Up Justice Partner Practice De La Projects as a digital stream with a LIVE audience on platforms like Twitch and Youtube. We record a show that we archive as an audio podcast and a video archive available on platforms like apple itunes.

As part of Calling Up Justice’s practice we reflect on widely distributed cultural productions to facilitate media literacy and explore larger ideas of social justice. Star Trek’s combination of a utopian future, allegorical storytelling, diverse representation, social commentary, and ethical exploration make it an excellent vehicle for discussing social justice. It invites viewers to envision a better future while critically examining the present and contemplating the changes necessary to achieve social equality and justice.
Trek Flights was inspired by a wine flight. A Wine Flight is a selection of wine presented in a row for tasting. Often, this involves placing a few wine glasses with different types of white wine or red wine types on a special board for serving. 4-6 wines are typically in a flight. We started developing the concept under the banner of Trek Table and Calling Up Justice published these videos on tiktok.
Calling Up Justice is celebrating Black characters in Sar Trek! Star Trek has always been at the forefront of representation and diversity in popular culture, and the franchise has introduced a number of notable black characters over the years. From Lieutenant Uhura, the communications officer aboard the USS Enterprise in the original series, to Michael Burnham, the protagonist of Star Trek: Discovery, these characters have brought unique perspectives and added depth to the Star Trek universe. This list of black Star Trek characters is a testament to the franchise’s commitment to representation, and celebrates the diverse range of experiences and stories that have been brought to life on screen.
