Workshop Description: “Working Towards Witness” is a sanctuary space for Black QT (Queer/Trans) people guided in movement, rooted in text and built on each other to explore playfulness, release, and an unshaming heart. Let us build and fortify by engaging in generative conversations about Black autonomy and reclaiming Black Indigeneity practices. Led by Ebbie and Sun. In May, we continued exploring the meaning of “witness”, rediscovered our anchors and collectively explored and built a definition of embodied safety: an expansive place of warmth, rooted & rhythmic, a cleansing breath, flexible, circulating the depths, big belly laughter with a friend, surrounded by Black people chanting ayeee and, and, and, and…. This time, we are revisiting embodied safety and dreaming ways to resource safety by building an ongoing practice of devotion as study.
Collectively, we remember that for many of us our first languages are our bodies / body movements. WTW is a sanctuary space for Black QT (Queer/Trans) people, guided in movement, rooted in text and built on each other to explore playfulness, release, and an unshaming heart. A space to celebrate, cry, laugh, reflect, and rest. Let us build and fortify by engaging in generative conversations about Black autonomy and reclaiming Black Indigeneity practices.
Duration of the workshop: 2 hr. 45 min with breaks.
Thangs to brang: Yourself as you are, water, writing utensil, paper, an object that grounds you (optional) and openness
Movements will be seated and standing. Not much floor space is required: setup an area where you can extend your arms fully and your legs about yoga mat wide length, if applicable. Expect mostly slow freeflowing body movements, writing prompts, and multisensory connections through various ways of storytelling.
