Vision Quilt peace in Our Streets

Claudia Alick attended Vision Quilt’s student exhibition where youth address gun violence through art math and humanities studies. Founder Cathy Deforest introduced Claudia to teachers who helped design the curriculum and students showed off their art. She also introduced Claudia to Kenny Johnson an award winning athlete, victim of gun violence, and disabled community member.

Vision Quilt is a volunteer grassroots organization based in Portland, Oregon. Our members are teachers, business owners, parents, artists, social workers, journalists, retirees and gun owners. In fact, our first panels were created by gun owners. We bring years of experience in working with public schools, universities, nonprofits and social justice causes. Meet the Board of Directors and the youth and community leaders on the Vision Quilt Advisory Council.

Vision Quilt empowers communities to create their own solutions to gun violence through the power of art and inclusive dialogue. Founder Cathy DeForest invited me to witness the work and then I showed up and she invited me on camera! These teachers and students and community members are doing great things. #visionquilt #guncontrol #guncontrolsaveschildrenslives
