TASC and Snacks

February 14 “‪An allegory for accessibility. The snacks are first placed in the center of the table but no one can reach them. Centering them equally made them inaccessible to all. We’re now passing them around the table. #callingup‬Theaters Advancing Social Change Bay Area Meeting. https://www.theatrebayarea.org/page/TASC2019”

This was a TASC meeting.  A year back funding was secured from the NEA and the Zellerbach Foundation, ten Bay Area theatre companies—along with Theatre Bay Area—have been convening over the course of the last year to take part in a series of trainings centered on equity, diversity, and inclusion.  Training designed by artEquity—a national organization dedicated to providing tools, training, and resources at the intersection of art and activism to individuals and organizations—included weekend-long intensives give theatre-makers and administrators the opportunity to address these topics as a group, learning with and from each other in a supportive cohort.  The cohort continued to gather after the trainings completed and worked to identity their next steps. I pass the snacks.
