Support Sun – Guest Artist in Urgent Need After Car Hit
Calling Up Justice is helping raise emergency funds for Sun, a working artist rooted in Appalachia who creates powerful work through movement and music. Sun is currently in a quarantine arts residency with us in the Bay Area, where they’ve been creating despite facing an unexpected hardship.
Before flying out for this residency, Sun drove 70 miles to the DMV area — and while their car was safely parked, it was hit. This has created significant stress and logistical challenges. They’ve been managing while in residency, but once it ends, the impact becomes immediate and urgent.
Sun flies back next week, and needs to drive home and then directly to another arts residency — one of the few that honors and uplifts their work. There’s little to no public transportation in their community. Without a working vehicle, their access to housing, safety, and livelihood is at serious risk.

This is about more than car repairs. It’s about making sure a visionary artist has access to the opportunities they’ve earned. Any support you can offer goes directly to helping Sun get safely back on the road and continue their journey.
Our research shows that a new car might be anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 in the DMV Area. Sun is actively searching for a deal but the time factor might necessitate a higher price point. You can send funds via venmo @ sehay cashapp $sehay1 and zelle dykebossrus@gmail.com
