The Calling Up Justice practice explores technological innovation that impacts cultural producing. We asked Chat GPT to describe the experiment we are doing with artificial intelligence platforms. Our interest is in accessibility, bias, and how it will impact creative production in the future. We’ve been creating everything from plays and stories to animations and videogames using the tools and discussing them publicly. The text below is the result of fine tuning data that described a few of our sessions. Experimenting with AI for Social Justice in Creative Output
Calling Up Justice is an innovative practice that has been experimenting with AI to test social justice capacities in its creative output, such as fiction, plays, poetry, and videogames. This exciting initiative is pushing the boundaries of creative expression while advancing the cause of justice and exploring technological boundaries.
The practice has been prompt engineering and analyzing creative work generated by AI technology for bias and other problematic content. This includes examining issues such as representation, stereotypes, and discrimination. By observing machine learning algorithms in action, the artists and activists are able to identify patterns and themes that may be problematic and provide insights for writers to improve their work.
Calling Up Justice has also been conducting livestreams where the audience can reflect on and make prompts in a collaborative and inclusive creative process. This is an excellent opportunity for the audience to learn from each other’s insights and unique experiences. The prompts offered by the audience have helped surface diverse social justice issues.
Although AI in creative output has the potential to revolutionize the world of disability accessibility, the output’s bias is a concern. Additionally, a significant issue is that the AI systems are being trained on vast amounts of original work without consent or credit, leading to reflections on capitalism, cultural appropriation, and colonialism.
Overall, Calling Up Justice is an excellent example of how social justice and inclusivity must be centered in design. With the practice’s focus on collaboration, experimentation, and community involvement, it is paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse future in cultural producing and publishing. They have published several books and a video game from these experiments, which can be found on their website.
