MLK and Ghostlight Programming

As part of our Martin Luther King Day and Ghostlight Project programming Calling Up Justice has committed to supporting the Anti-Police Terror Project‘s Reclaim MLK’s Radical Legacy week of events. We first attended the Disability Justice is Beloved Community event on Saturday Jan 18 and did a massive mask distribution of be healthy masks. This was a Why Mask performance supported by the event organizers.

On Monday Jan 20 we started the day live-streaming a reading of the “I Have Been to the Mountaintop” Martin Luther King’s last speech before his assassination. Then in our digital encampment we gathered with a few disabled friends and watched the live-stream of the Radical Legacy March and performance with ASL. We also enjoyed the MediasTouch presidential inauguration protest stream of adorable puppies and kittens. Later Maiamama played videogames featuring Black women characters as part of some pleasure activism to round out the day.

Reclaim MLK’s Radical Legacy March & Week of Action

Inauguration Day falls on MLK Day and we are ready to start the new year building towards liberation with our Annual March and Week of Action to Reclaim MLK’s Radical Legacy!

Are you enraged because of the deepening fascism and police state in this country? Disgusted and heart sick by the ongoing genocide in Palestine? Appalled at the attacks against our unhoused neighbors?

Oakland will not concede to fascism. We knew no matter the outcome of this election, this system was never meant to serve the people: WE take care of US.
