Calling Up Justice has gathered a few videos to help you understand what happened with Claudine Gay. Claudine Gay is an American political scientist and academic administrator who was the 30th president of Harvard University. Gay was the university’s first Black president and only the second woman to take the role in its 388-year history. Her tenure is the shortest in the history of the university.
The unfounded accusations of antisemitism are based in a senate hearing where she and the presidents of MIT and the University of Pennsylvania were asked manipulatively framed questions meant to endanger the education of students who are against the mass murder of Palestinians by the country of Israel. New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, asked whether “calling for the genocide of Jews” would violate the colleges’ code of conduct. All three presidents answered in ways that indicated the would uphold university policy and student human rights. This was not the response the politicians were attempting to force them into.
Harvard supported this testimony and did not take action based on the bad faith claims of antisemitism. A billionaire donor wanted her taken out of power and threatened university funding. The university then received claims from conservatives that Dr. Gay had plagiarized her past work, did not deserve her job, and should be fired. They researched and reported that while she did not plagiarized the citations could be done better and she agreed. However the continuing racist attacks, threats to her life, and attacks to university funding resulted in her resigning.
