BIPOC and Disabled Independent Performing Artists UNITE

In 2020 we saw a national proliferation of artists advocating for more justice in the our professional worlds. Groups and projects like We See You White American Theater (WSYWAT), Bay Area Artists for Racial Justice, Accountability Workgroup, Ghostlight Project. Lots of theaters took trainings from groups like artequity and TCG Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Institute . It produced statements, lists of values, some resignations, new leadership plans, new strategic plans, new hires, new expectations. Four years later we would like to reflect on the progress or the lack there of.

In 2024 BIPOC and Disabled Independent Performing Artists UNITE. We are addressing Racism and Ableism in the Performing Arts. This is a temperature taking exercise for the field. We will create graphics and curate from the anonymized responses to create a script to read from at our event. Let’s get clarity about how we are doing!
