BABES IN HO-LLAND - Calling Up Justice!

BABES IN HO-LLAND

Audiencing in Community!
BABES IN HO-LLAND

Calling Up Justice values the act of being in community while we audience for cultural productions. One Free Community Discord hosted us February 1 2024. There is something missing from the theater experience when we have to watch alone. This allowed us to be on camera or off as audience members and do active emotional reactions using discord buttons. This is accessibility! We were so happy to attend This world premier of Babes in Ho-Lland , Written by Deneen Reynolds-Knott, Directed by Leigh Rondon-Davis. Big thanks to Ry for organizing all this for us!

About Babes in Ho-Lland

In the sunless Pittsburgh winter of 1996, two co-eds connect over a shared love for R&B girl groups but quickly discover something deeper. While attending a predominantly white college these two Black students create their own bubble of self-discovery, music, and sanctuary. The tensions of love, financial hardship, and future uncertainty threaten to destroy it.

Described by playwright Deneen Reynolds-Knott as an “unabashed love story,” this is not your typical rom-com. It’s an exploration of identity, sexuality, and college in the 90s. In this poignant journey, the women sing along to tunes like “Who Can I Run To,” by Xscape, underscoring moments of realization and intimacy with deep bass beats.
