Reflections

Being entrusted with the virtual production of this memorial has been an honor. The Celebration of Life for Alice Wong was a deeply moving gathering, held across physical and digital space with care and intention. Maiamama served as our main engineer, holding the technical container with steadiness and grace, while Jesenia grounded the experience in the physical space at the museum. Claudia Alick hosted on screen, weaving together voices, stories, and moments of collective remembrance.

More than 600 people gathered on YouTube, with another 300 joining the virtual reception—hundreds of us connecting across time zones and access needs. People showed up from beds, backyards, living rooms, and care spaces, reminding us how vital digital gathering is. It allowed community to be present in ways that traditional spaces often cannot hold.

It was a beautiful, emotionally resonant event—full of grief, love, and deep connection. We are grateful to the San Francisco Disability Cultural Center, and to Alice’s friends and family, for bringing this together with such care. Calling Up Justice was honored to hold space for this moment, and to be part of a gathering that reflected the expansive, accessible world Alice helped build.
