Accessible Sports in Society: A New Initiative Supporting Black & Indigenous Disabled Youth

A collaboration with Soul Touchin Experiences, SIGA, AWN, and many more — funded by the Ford Foundation

Calling Up Justice is thrilled to support Accessible Sports in Society, an innovative new initiative led by Luticha André Doucette of Catalyst Consulting and Soul Touchin Experiences. This visionary project brings together partners including SIGA, the Autistic Women & Non-Binary Network, and a powerful network of disabled leaders and organizers working collectively toward a more equitable future. We are deeply grateful for the support of the Ford Foundation, whose funding makes this work possible.

This project launches at a crucial moment. Disabled youth—especially Black and Indigenous disabled youth—deserve pathways to leadership, community, mentorship, and joy. Accessible Sports in Society creates those pathways by engaging young people at the intersection of sports, arts, and technology, building a pipeline of new opportunities and experiences that center access, culture, and creativity.

What the Program Will Offer

Accessible Sports in Society provides robust programming designed to:

  • Develop leadership and self-advocacy skills
  • Connect youth with mentors and professional networks
  • Showcase the wide variety of careers available within sports
  • Create accessible, imaginative, multidisciplinary spaces that celebrate disabled brilliance

This initiative is designed to help youth cultivate the real skills needed to build the worlds—and futures—they deserve.

Town Hall Replay: Featuring Emmy Award–Winning Artist Keith Jones

We kicked off this initiative with a powerful community town hall hosted by Emmy Award–winning artist Keith Jones, going in depth on:

  • Why this project is urgently needed
  • Who is involved and how these partnerships strengthen the work
  • A deeper look at upcoming programming
  • The broader vision for Access, Disability Justice, and sports innovation

We are proud that Calling Up Justice’s MaiaMama provided livestream and OBS production support for this event, ensuring accessible, high-quality digital audienceing for all participants. Her technical artistry and care shaped the broadcast from beginning to end.
