I made this essay early into my #walkabout project after studying and participating in several national searches for artistic leadership at different arts institutions across the country. The impact of white dominated systems seemed clear and I was concerned that these systems would only continue to replicate themselves. The video wa sprovative question to the field meant to encourage a conversation and hopefully some better institutional choices in the future. I shared the video on my social media accounts and American Theater reached out to ask me to share my essay in their publication.
