A living document with vocabulary for the disabled community and all who wish to increase accessibility and justice.  

This resource was compiled in 2015 by Claudia Alick, Christine Bruno, and Beth Prevor in collaboration with the TCG Equity Diversity and inclusion institute, ArtEquity, Carmen Morgan and associated disabled artists nationally. Language matters. In civil rights movements around race, gender, nationality, sexuality, and ability language has been a cornerstone of achieving respect and inclusion. Because language changes over time and disability culture is not homogeneous, this document is not designed to be a definitive guide. It is a living resource to create shared language for more equitable outcomes. As society continues to evolve in its thinking about disability, so does the terminology used to describe those who inhabit it. We invite you to respond from your own lived experience and contribute to our guide.
